It never really goes away, but you will get better at handling it. Right now, when the waves hit, they stick inside you. They'll keep coming for years, but eventually when they hit, they'll pass right through and be gone. It just takes time.

Focus on the good memories and remind yourself to be thankful for the time you had with him. Reframing it from loss to gratitude isn't some cheap mind trick, nor does it take away the loss. It just means you're choosing how you handle it and what you focus on.
