Alabama was one of the only teams that wanted a 9 game schedule. Unlike LSU

Bottom line is when a nine game schedule was an actual possibility, Saban was against it and LSU was for it. Those are facts. When it was clear that every SEC coach was against it, that’s when Nicky wanted it. Clearly he never wanted it, but he was smart enough to be the one coach wanting to take on such a difficult task when it had no chance of being a reality. It’s just one of the many reasons he was smarter than all the other coaches.

You have to admit, with Les Miles and Red Bull leading the purple Chargers, it really wasn't that hard for Coach Saban to be the smartest guy in the room.

Eh...being for something while others are against it...only to do a 180* stance later on does question "he was smarter".
