By all indications it will be what Wommack ran at his DC and HC stops preceding his move to Alabama. 4-2-5 with essentially 3 safeties: one a middle of the field safety, one a safety/corner hybrid, one a safety/linebacker hybrid.

This is an important area where those saying “nickel” are wrong. A nickel back is generally a third corner / coverage guy.

Wommack’s defense, at least at South Alabama, was definitely a three safety look. Yam Banks, who transferred to Ole Miss this offseason, played the “husky position” which was essentially an in the box safety at 6-1 208. Jalen Jordan, who ironically had transferred from Ole Miss two years before, played the rover position at 5’9 and 190 or so.
