I have never thought about cereal being considered soup.
So is a hotdog a sandwich?

No. I would never put ketchup on a sandwich.

I can’t really put up strong argument against it.
“Eye of the beholder…” and whatnot
As long as we’re keeping an open mind about this kind of thing, my personal preference of Soup is more along the lines of :

Soup doesn't have to be hot.

A burger isn’t technically a sandwich?

Nope, think Gazpacho, Vicissysiou, and assorted cold soup

Nope, Cream of Wheat, Farina, Mush, Oatmeal, and sorted hot cereal

I do not believe so. A burger isn't filled with what is considered sandwich meat.

I hear you good sir
BUT.... I'd be willing to bet, when a layman hears the word "soup", they expect it to be warm/hot.
When the layman hears the word "cereal", they expect a room temperature or colder liquid that accompanies said cereal aka milk.
For example, when/if you ever drink sake, do you expect it to be hot or cold?
Chili? Is that hot or cold?
Technically, one can eat it at any temperature, but that doesn't mean it has that reputation.

Not if you spent part of your life "riding the rails"

I don't drink sake for the temperature, I drink it to get hammered.

My perception is soup is a man thing and hot or cold should be served in the appropriate container
A large bowl (same with cereal - hot or cold)

They took the comforting man in the chefs hat off the box.
When I was a kid, the visual is what heightend the anticipation of what was for breakfast.
Cream of Wheat + melted churned butter from our farm + neighbors honey = Goooooood Eatin!
