Wicked has had runs on and off Broadway since the early 00s. There’s been a wide range of women who have played Elphaba. Alexia Khadime played her in the UK I believe.

I'm not sure if a black actress has played Elphaba, but when I saw the show on Broadway, a black girl played Glinda and was excellent.
Cynthia Errivo is a seasoned Broadway performer and is more than capable of handling the role. I'm more concerned about Ariana Grande's acting abilities.

Aside from looking up the current actress, the only person I can find historically to have played her is Idina Menzel, who is Jewish.
I'm not sure why it matters - the character is GREEN.
