Sometimes it's more about where you want to be than it is about the town you're leaving. Tuscaloosa doesn't have to a bad place for someone to want to live somewhere else. Hell, when you've got more than enough money almost every place is a good enough place to live but when it comes to where family, friends, and things you love to do are it could be pretty far away from where you're at.
