There was a post about this. Students can’t be employees of the university without tax implications. Paying students exposes them to loss of millions in taxes and thus more negative impact to students and collegiate sports since most athletic departments operate in the negative as is.

Wait til you see what % of the TV revenue the SEC players union is demanding. They’re not giving up the legal leverage awarded them of renegotiating a new deal every year without substantial guarantees.
