Everyone is like "Oh its like the NFL now."
Its not at all like the NFL, the NFL has contracts.
2024 CFB is a professional sport without any contracts whatsoever and instant eligibility transfers.
People don't seem to understand the NCAA couldnt put this right if they wanted to because the courts told them they cant.
It's not going to change and its not going to get better, its going to play out to its natural conclusion:
1) Temporary bump in casual viewers as the big schools continue to pull away from the others bringing in people who want to sports bet on minor league NFL football
2) The current diehard fans bleed off as the free agency mess plays out
3) The sport turns into a regional sport with 25-50% of its current levels of support and partially empty stadiums all over the place

You're right. And this is why they're going to fix it eventually. The players now are all-powerful.

Okay, if you had 32 "AAA minor league" football teams, each one tied to one of the 32 NFL teams, and you have 53 man rosters for them all (18 to 21 year olds only), you have employed 1,696 football players, many of whom have zero business being in college at that point in their lives.
1,700 kids making money as pro's, not counting injured reserve and a few practice squad guys
How many college players entered the portal this year? One thousand? Two thousand?
A legit NFL minor league would solve much of this problem.
But then I guess, I don't know, you've got Disney and the networks declaring war on that concept because the minor league crap TV ratings would be such a bad tradeoff to those players starring in the 12 team playoff...
