I wouldn't last long but I would asked Nick if Trob can do a good job as DC and if he said Yes then I would pay the man. Even if I knew after one year I was going in another direction. Same with Freddie. My thinking is my azz is in a bind and I am going to try my best to keep these players I have on the roster as of today.

In other words, I am punting the ball and hoping for an inside the 10 kick.

Yeah I think having to "part ways" after your first season following the Goat would mean you are not long for this world . I do get why you would consider that strategy.

Honestly I have skepticism that Saban was recommending him. He had the option to make him DC or Co-DC before. Maybe I'm off and he didn't have time this go round.

The other thing about TRob is he almost always works for a defensive head coach and had a co-coordinator thay can help. Tuberville, Diaz, Muschamps, Saban, now Kirby. That doesn't mean he isn't capable, but (sans support from Saban) he would be on his own for the first time.

That kind of sound logic can get your arse tar-and-feathered around here, amigo.
