As the local Gator/Bears fan, I want to share the progress made by our boy Big Dex! Dude is quietly putting together a great rookie season and is looking like he might become a force with a little more experience. Always felt like he was used wrong here and it’s showing to be true. Guy is a natural 3T pass rusher and we failed to utilize him correctly imo.
“Gervon Dexter over the last five games:
- 17.2% pass rush win rate (7th among DI)
- 15% pressure rate (6th)”
* this was before Sunday where he had two sacks.

Wouldn’t go that far
Not many guys who left here did shite at other schools
We knew Dexter was good, we also lied about many others
Everyone cried when Tarquin left, not me.
He was a part timer at USC and then lost the OT job completely

The frustrating thing after the Bears drafted Dex were all the draft talking heads just blasting the UF defensive scheme. Dexter’s biggest negative during the process was his slow get off and high pad level. But the more people that asked around, the more it became clear that’s what UF was teaching him to do. Now fast forward a year and he’s already turning into a dominant inside pass rushing force which is arguably the most important position in today’s game defensively. Just seemed like a huge waste of talent resources by UF coaching.
