Blame the system.
There are, roughly, 130 Division I college football teams. Picking the Top Four - although an improvement from the old system - still kinda' sucks. Yet so much better than how it used to be.
Twelve next year will be better. Somehow, every other division of college football managed sixteen and that all seemed to work.
FWIW ? 12 teams in today's environment allows roughly one out of ever ten teams. 12 isn't a bad number - although I don't like the bye. 16 would be fantastic, and then let 'em play it out.
And yes, if it was 12 this year ? Georgia would be that 5 seed nobody wanted to play.
