USC would've smoked Auburn.
Auburn struggled to beat a mediocre Virginia Tech in their bowl game.
USC played Virginia Tech that year. They trailed at halftime, led by 1 score in the 4th quarter, and ultimately pulled away to win 24-13.
Not sure why this is the third time recently I've seen someone try to use 04 Auburn struggling with VT as some evidence USC would kill them when the difference in USC-VT and Auburn-VT was 8 points.

Exactly. These morons with agendas seem to forget the way it played out. AU was disappointed to be in this game and still was up 16-0. They gave up a garbage touchdown late to make it look closer.
Not sure why some bama fans are pained to admit that the AU 2004 team was the best in the land that year. I have no problem admitting that multiple UA teams have been the best in certain years.

VaTech finished #10 in the country. UGA finished 7th. UTk finished in the top 15 (Auburn beat them twice). And LSU (defending champs) finished 16th.
I don't want to hear shite about 2004 AU having a weak schedule. The bowl game was classic Tubershell. Went up by 7-10 points and leaned on an elite defense. All 13 of Tech's points came in the 4th qtr andfter AU had controlled the entire game.
