Just got to thinking about this, randomly. Things weren’t great last year and it really did seem like a changing of the guard was happening. Lost to Tennessee and LSU, missed the playoffs, the coordinators were awful, and Georgia was about to repeat.

But when those guys decided to play, like it wasn’t even a question to them, it really did seem like the Bama brand wasn’t as down as folks thought. Of course they were going to suit up for the Tide one more time, because it means something. I don’t know, maybe I’m overthinking it, but that decision softened everything that happened last year and made it seem like Saban still meant business. Then we smoked KSU and proved it.

To get the first two picks in the draft to play (and play hard) for a meaningless bowl game with millions of dollars on the line said so much about their character and love for Bama. I believe Jeudy, Ruggs and Surtain did the same against Michigan if I'm not mistaken.

And people were losing minds and saying this was looking like the end of Coach Bowdens tenure at Florida State. Just absolute frickin nonsense. I knew a lot of people in that building during the 06-09 years. Just unspeakable idiocy to even compare 2021-2023 Bama to the shite show of 06-09 Free Shoes.

You just don’t see this at other places. The no. 1 overall pick played in a “meaningless” bowl game? Insanity.

I remember one of the Bosa boys at Ohio State pulled his groin during the season and just left the team. That garbage would never happen at Bama.

I don’t like Bosa and tOSU but that’s not what happened. It wasn’t a pulled groin. Bosa had a bilateral core muscle injury - which means both sides - and ended up having surgery. It’s a season ending injury. Even if he’d been cleared for the postseason he’d have been playing with no conditioning or practice.

Regardless of the injury he just left the team to “prepare for the draft”. Could you see Dallas Turner doing that or any of our guys in the past doing that? They’d stay with the team and on the sideline. Supporting their brothers.

That was my point.

Same reason we don’t have bowl opt outs. Saw it in 2019 and 2022. Same reason we had no opt outs during Covid outside of Keilan Robinson.

Nick’s culture at Bama isn’t comparable.

Surtain was a soph that year. His last season at Bama was in 2020.
