If you watch this Youtube video, it shows the view from behind him and the field is basically wide open, and like you said, 52 is down there to block.
Crazy sequence of plays that ultimately worked out.
Also, interesting that it was Jalen's 2 such penalty of the game. My guy needs a little better field position awareness.

So Goombaw [and others] just made this more difficult.
Seeing #52 downfield, this also would have been a potential penalty with any pass.
