..just no way to know how good a team is going to be that early.

That's exactly my point.

But those data points are used to either move you up or down

The data point from week 3 is used for week 4. And after that, it is no longer used moving forward. Week 4 is used as the data point to determine week 5.

You are completely wrong insinuating that a week 3 data point has any merit a month later.

So beating a ranked team early in the season does propel you upward

For 1 week and 1 week only.
And then it gets washed with more complete data points the following week.

You disagree with this basic principle?

Herschel got 1000 yards in 7.5 games as a true freshman.
He got his 15th TD in his 11th game as a freshman.

It took Q 9 games to top 1000 yards rushing as a freshman.
He got 15 rushing TDs in 10 games.

Herschel got 1000 rushing yards in 6 games as a sophomore.
Q just got it after week 12.

Herschel got 15 rushing TDs after 9 weeks as a sophomore.
Q hit that number after week 12.

I have no clue what your point is. Or why you are trying to compare the 2.

I disagree with this. It has merit in setting a rank. If you have a high ranking at that point you have a better opportunity to stay in the top 25 to the end or atleast longer.

We could go round and round. Let's not.

You are ignoring wins and losses. Willingly.
Why put a ranking over wins and losses?

It was a useful data point for 1 week. Get wrecked in the Saturday game and it gets forgotten in 2 weeks.

Beat a beast and it gets forgotten in 2 weeks.

Dominate 10 nobodies in a row and it was forgotten on 4 weeks.

What have you done for me lately?

Hell... head to head trumps old ratings too. Look at Texas vs Bama after a week 1 result. The head to head is ignoring 10 other weeks of data, currently.

I'm going to laugh when the committee puts us in front of Missouri for the final rankings and bump this thread so quick.

Ole Piss dont deserve shite. That's the thing about the SEC, you gotta earn it. They didn't.

They did earn it. Ole Miss would be ahead of Mizzou if you take the SEC's own tiebreakers into accord - record against common opponents.
