Coastal Carolina 2012:

Joe Moglia
- Only previous HC experience was 1 season in the UFL

Result: 56-22 record at CC. 5 winning seasons out of 6. Arguably laid the ground work for Chadwell's run at Coastal.

Houston 2016:

Major Applewhite
- No HC experience
- Promoted from OC

Result: 15-11, fired after two seasons. 0-3 in bowl games

Then, Musselman and Pittman.

I was surprised to learn he didn't hire Kelvin Sampson nor Tom Herman as Houston.

Only 4 hires - 2 successes, 2 failures. Outside of Musselman, he has basically hired no names. Moglia and Pittman were both journeyman types. Applewhite being an up-and-comer type.

It's a small sample size but based on his history, I wouldn't necessarily expect an Urban Meyer splash hire.

Good point, he has to hit a home run with this hire and reinvent the NIL structure for football.

Interesting. I thought he hired Herman too.

Bump. Why exactly is he considered such a good AD?
