just ruminating over my coffee this AM…today marks an opportunity to break an unfortunate habit of AU teams that goes back to the Dye era: playing lousy against at least one non P5/AQ team every regular season.
Save for a few stellar years (2004 and 2010 come to mind) it seems we’ve struggled with a midmajor or directional school on our schedule pretty much annually. We usually win, but look terrible in the process.
2022: San Jose St
2021: GA St
2019: Tulane
2018: USM
2017: Mercer
2015: Jax St
2014: Samford
2012: LA-Mo
2011: Utah St
2008: UT-Martin
and so on.
We looked pretty solid against UMass & Samford back in September, would be nice to close out our non-P5 OOC schedule with a convincing win over the best team we’ve faced since Ole Kiff.

Some may disagree… but I think that Mercer game had the most suck in it. There we’re probably 250 teams across FBS/FCS that would’ve beaten auburn that day.
Jax St and Ga St should’ve been losses… but those two AU teams weren’t any good.
