Not really. It didn’t matter for schools like TCU or the Pac 12 up until last year.
Because even if they went 12-1 they were still going to be behind Georgia/Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and OU or Notre Dame.
We all know even if somehow LSU were to win out, finish 11-2, they would still not get in over a 12-1 Georgia and that is where the problem lies.

I would be happy with a NY6 bowl this year. We don’t have a championship level defense. Too bad because the offense is championship caliber.

So, your solution is to let even more mediocre teams get into the playoffs?

1) We need a system for the championship game! -BCS
2) We need a 4 team playoff! -Got it
3) We need to pay the players!-NIL
4)Coaches can leave a team with a contract and players should too!-Transfer Portal
5) We need a 12 team playoff! -Got it
6) What's wrong with college football? It's too much like the NFL!-DUH!

I don't think we would either, and honestly, I don't have a problem with it as losing two games shouldn't get a team in unless its a bizzaro world 2007 scenario.
Last year I thought that Bama was one of the 4 best teams in the country, even with the two losses. That doesn't mean they deserved to go to the CFP under this format though. This year, if LSU somehow were to run the table, it would obviously mean our defense has somehow learned to play football, and we would likely be one of the 4 best teams in the country at that point. Again, it didn't matter last year, and it likely wont this year. The system is what it is, and if you want to be in the CFP, don't lose to 2023 Ole Miss, or in Bama's case 2022 LSU.
EDIT
Oh shite OP, Im sorry, Im supposed to be blowing a gasket.
