Suffice it to say, none of these 4 coaches inherited a situation as dire as Heupel's...
In 2007, Saban inherited an offensive line that returned Chris Capps as a starter, and one of his supposed best offensive players who was selling blow in the parking lot of the athletic department offices. And don't let the fact that, albeit in a prison yard somewhere, DJ Hall is still catching passes against Tennessee blind you to the fact that he was a god-awful cancer.
Heupel had 5 players drafted his first year. That was 5 more than Saban had drafted his first year at Alabama. Yep...that's right...Saban had exactly zero players drafted his first year at Alabama.
Granted, it wasn't the same stage of his career, but if you think Heupel inherited a direr situation at Tennessee than what Saban inherited at Alabama, then you've likely been consuming too much of Jimmy Johns' product. And I don't mean sandwiches.

One of the most pointless fallacies of fans on message boards is:
"Let's compare our coach's first couple of seasons to all-time greats"
It's a decent point that not many great coaches started out as world beaters from day 1.
However, it's also a bit pointless. For every Nick Saban, you can also find 100 Will Muschamps or Jim McIlwanes who started out with similarly optimistic records.

This is the same dude who was drunkenly calling for Heupel's job on the Scoreboard Saturday night.
