Alabama wasn’t good then. Although he did beat saban in his first year. That was our last win against bama

Croom was awful

Croom was bad but not everywhere. He refused to change any coaches out to run a new offense. His teams beat Bama in 06 & 07 and winning 8 games in 2007.

His offenses sucked badly though. He may have been the worst coach ever for that side of the ball. The offense sucked worse under him than at anytime of my lifetime and I am old. They could not complete a pass vs air, no defense required.

Croom coached in the NFL and his play calling philosophy is fine but his ability to teach it was off the charts bad. I saw play after play of a wide open RB out in the flat that if he were hit in stride would have been a successful play but the ball would either hit ground or the RB have to stop to catch it, which allowed the pursuit to blow them up for no gain, minimal gain or a loss and it never got better. In fact, it got worse the longer he was there.

It was bad, but Moorhead's offense was just as bad. His take on RPO confused the hell out of the offense. I imagine the same issues persist at Akron. Croom's teams just had antiquated 1970s concepts that were ridiculously easy to defend.
