100% a thing. IT was made first in Madison, GA. Called Madison White Sauce.

Wrong, it was invented by Major Adams in Madison, Alabama, He owned A&A BBQ there, which burned down in 1977 or 1978. He was an old man by that time and never rebuilt. I knew him personally and ate at his restaurant at least once a week, for my whole life growing up.
