Had Daniels announced he was transferring before Johnson entered the portal? I really don't remember, but I thought Max announced really early, like before the bowl game, that he was leaving.

No, max entered the portal before the bowl game which is why kirklin had to play QB.
Max is a bitch for that move, but he was gone before Daniels said he was coming.

The OPs timeline is off, Max hit the portal a week after Coach O's last game vs. Aggie in 2021. Kelly got the job and went after JD after that point in time.
Personally I wish Max would have stayed with LSU and played the bowl game and left after that, he loses no eligibility and LSU does not have to play a corner back at QB vs. KSU.
