"I don't think the safety was "trying" to hurt Hunter "

In watching the play several times from the time the safety began his approach - he never even looked for the ball. He was tracking straight toward Hunter from the get - go. It was not a bang bang play - it was a deliberate planned take out.
Tracking man rather than ball and going for the hit =/= teeing off to deliberately "take out" a player. I think they'd been coached up all week to try to out physical Colorado and the plan was Hunter gets hit anytime the ball goes his way to wear him down. 99/100 that hit ends up with a flag, maybe wind knocked out, and he's back in the game a few plays later. The CSU player's arm caught Hunter weirdly.

I can assure you nobody goes after a guy to take him out with an elbow to the liver - at full game speed that's so weird and tough to actually do and a freak accident... It was a late hit and definitely a penalty. Probably a little extra effort from the rivalry game but not some Bruce Lee liver karate chop.

I am almost willing to bet you are right. It seems like all the teams are tired of the colorado noise, but there were swac skirmishes like this as well. SWAC coaches were sayin deion was just using them, mostly jealous.
