lol.. No coach in the modern era has done big things that had 3 crappy full seasons to start things off. If you can't get an 8-4 record in your first 3 years at UF you dont know what you are doing at this level.
Yeah but you can also win the East and win 10 games and not do shite either like Mullen and McElwain.

True but Mullen pulled a decent record in 2020 because he adapted to what he had on offense. A lazy recruiter and hard head on changing QBs though.
We have more talent than 9 of the teams we play this season though I could see an argument for saying us an TN are equal due to their number of senior players. People are trying to use that youth argument but our starters aren't that young when redshirt sophomores are treated as 3rd year players like they are in reality.

If Mullen didnt have Macs guys he wouldnt have lasted long as he did.
Soon as they left and he had his guys, 2-6 in Conf with a struggle win vs Samford.
This is ground zero for Billy as hes pushing out the riffraff
07 Defense had talent too, allowed 24 ppg, 08 D 12 ppg
Talent is good but it needs experience

Never said the talent Mullen brought in was good.

That’s the point they are not here yet. Lagway is still in high school.

Whenever I see that mentioned, people often cite Michigan State, TCU, and Colorado.
Michigan State was a one year wonder. Great in 21, terrible in 22, and in 23 the university might be Harsining Mel Tucker (although Mel gave them a lot more to work with on that front than Harsin did the Barn).
TCU had a great run last year but was exposed on the biggest stage. This year...well that remains to be seen. Lost to Colorado (now the Gold Standard on how teams can build through the portal, a whole 2 games into the season), and has a bad Houston team today who got smoked by, I think Rice last weekend. We'll see how TCU fares today, but many suspect they'll be taking a step back.
Competitive teams can be built through the portal for one season, but it's yet to be proven that competitive programs (much less national championship) programs that compete at the highest levels can be built year after year. It may be possible, but it hasn't been done yet.

Now we have mostly Napier guys. They are good, but raw and inexperienced.
At least that's what I thought he meant.

Washington coach turned a wreck around right away. The team we are playing today had a full overhaul and had a real good second season.

Washington, Tenn and I am sure there are others. There is absolutely no excuse not to show something by your full 3rd season though and that was true before the portal even.

Again, we're talking about one season.
Tenn might have another good season this year. If they do, then they'd be a better example than Mich State, etc.
But we're talking about teams putting together one good season in the portal. There simply isn't a large enough sample size yet to show them doing it year after year.

But my main point is even with a rebuild a good coach will have a decent season in one of his first full 3 years. If he doesn't he is over his head as far as competing at a championship level.

That's a fair point.
I will say, we're only game 3 in Napier's second year. So if at the end of year 3 we're in the same place, I'd probably join in with you in this thread.

Id rather have a team built on a solid sustainable foundation than looking for lightning in a bottle every 5 yrs.
TCU will lose many games this yr

Tell me 1 with a schedule like ours, Napier has faced ranked teams in half his games.
Not all rebuilds are the same

Don't buy that argument when you have the recruits we have. Heck we even avoid an SEC West level schedule the first 2 years of Napier. Napier has also utilized the portal quite a bit getting many starters and contributors from it. Whatever our QB situation ends up being late this season he owns also as he didn't bring in a blue chipper his first 2 classes (unheard of for a top SEC program)and he brought Miller and Mertz here. If he does struggle the rest of this season and next season I think the biggest issue might be his offense though as I don't think you get many big SEC wins playing in a box like he has so far.

LMAO, ok. You think a team of FR/SO are gonna go out and beat ranked opponents on a regular basis? I really cant help you.
You never gave me a HC example who went out and beat ranked rivals with a young team like ours.

Took Norvell many years and some embarrassing loses to get FSU going.
Kiffin, in his 3rd yr at OM finished last season 1-5
