It will result in a lot more participation trophies which is honestly what a lot of schools want - not a real chance of winning but "hey we made the playoffs" which is why it will be popular. It's hard as hell in the SEC to get to the end without significant injuries and now winning it all will require one or more extra games. If you really think the 12th team in has a chance to win then I have some real estate to sell you. History says you can't even find 4 legitimate contenders, much less 12. On the other hand it probably means my team will be in every year so I'll shut up now.

Bama was certainly trying its best to get a participation trophy last year…

I like 12 in the hopes it allows one year great teams from schools that don’t have the “championship” cache to get their shot to prove something.

I don’t think we fully realize how much of the BCS and 4 team playoff came down to inherent bias. That led to the same small group of teams over and over again which isn’t good for CFB. If the transfer portal, NIL and the legal buying of recruits, and an expanded playoff even out the top echelon of the CFB world, it will be a more entertaining landscape to follow.

It doesn’t have to be ridiculous parity like NFL, but at the same time the status quo just won’t be sustainable.
