I always thought the Jeremy Bloom disaster in the early 2000s got the ball really rolling on showing how insane the NCAA was with their rules on amateurism. NCAA basically ended his college football career because he wanted to ski in the Olympics. Didn't get in any prolonged legal fights with the NCAA but that was a huge black eye for the NCAA to take that stance. Wholesome, good looking kid wanted to just represent his country a few years after 9/11 and the NCAA gave him the middle finger.
