I've heard the SEC may go to 32 teams and break away from the NCAA but I do not believe it will go that high. I believe the SEC will need the other Power leagues to have a legit playoff and to keep fan participation nationwide.

I suspect that the SEC and Big Ten will each go to 24 teams. The SEC mostly picking off the Southern public universities in the ACC with 1 or 2 Big-12 programs. The Big Ten grabbing the valuable pieces left in the PAC-12.

At that point, all of the teams of merit are contained within two mega conferences. They could split off and create a model similar to the early NFL-AFL merger. Each have a playoff to determine the champion. The national title cycles between the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl.

20 teams each is perfect for the B10 and the SEC. 10 team divisions, 9 conference games, a conference title game in Atlanta and Chicago (once the new Bears stadium is open), and then the true nattty game in the Rose or Sugar Bowl on NYD.
