Good lord so much wrong here. There were TWO polls at the time, the AP (Ohio St) and the Helms Athletic Foundation (Wisconsin).
In fairness, many people (myself included) say polls when it is much more accurate to say selectors. I mispeak, this way, too.
quote:I don't know about that, but the fact is still Georgia played in a bowl and the Buckeyes did not. While we played an extra game against a ranked team they did not.
Buckeyes couldn't play in a bowl game because the B10 didn't allow members to at the time.
quote:Yes. Selector. I can't say if it was the more respected ranking or not. I don't know. I do know that we were consensus. Yes, some were done retroactively, but as I said earlier, sometimes that is a good thing. Some hyperbole and biases can be taken out of the equation. So, I have no problem with Georgia claiming 1942. I do honestly think it is legit, but I also understand that I am biased.
"The Dickinson" was Frank Dickinson and his personal math ranking, not a poll.
That said, nobody had much of a problem with 1942 until we won the last two years and quickly closed the gap on some rivals in titles.
