Tennessee didn’t play the four best teams in the SEC that year in Tulane, Miss St, Ole Miss, and Georgia Tech and went on to get wrecked by USC in their bowl. Not legit.

Wrong.
1938- Vols National Champs
1939- Went Undefeated regular season, did not tie anyone, and did not give up a point. 10 consecutive shutouts. Finished #2
1940- Vols National Champs

How can a team be sandwich between 2 national champ teams and not allow a point and finish #2. The poll people screwed UT.

Tulane- finished 8-1-1
Georgia Tech- 8-2
Miss State - 8-2
Ole Miss - 7-2
