I applaud success in all athletics but I was pointing out to Arkansas fans that it was their solid football program that put them in one of the top two leagues.

Proves how little you actually know about what you're spewing. At the time Arkansas joined the SEC, we had one of the few self-sustaining athletics departments in the country. We ran in the black. We had a basketball program that emerged from the Eddie Sutton Glory Days and rolled right into the Nolan Richardson Glory Days - a 25 year span that had us in the Top 10 in wins over that time frame. Football was coming off back-to-back SWC championships. Track and Field was in the midst of a run never seen in ANY sport (not Oregon T&F... Not UNC soccer...). Other, non-revenue sports were holding their own.

JFB was able to sell Arkansas as a solid TOTAL athletics department that made money and brought with it a brand and a region that the SEC could leverage for more money. Football was part of the equation, but if we were just football and nothing else, we would have been passed over.

This was all that mattered.
