You gotta provide an ignition source.

I wouldn’t recommend using a standard issue Bic lighter.

You’re gonna be better off giving yourself some “extension” with your spark.

I’d go with an “Aim-a-Flame” type lighter at the bare minimum.

You might even wanna improvise a longer torch… like a kerosene soaked rag affixed on the end of a broom-stick if possible to mitigate the distance between you and the highly volatile & combustible cocktail “mist” coming out of the sprayer.

Yes, this seems the key

When going old school with the hairspray the professional watched the ignition point as it could pass the flame source and head back to the can. Good way to lose an arm or worse if it hit the can and exploded.
