Likely had everything to do with maintaining both rivalries.

OU needed one of them to transfer to another conference with them, so they could keep the other as a permanent OOC rival.

Would likely be more accurate if the title read, OU turned down the SEC because they didn't give a frick about Aggie.

100% accurate. A&M and OU have almost no history with each other except for 15 years from the late 90's to 2011 when we were both in the Big 12 together. Not rivals. No hate. Never really played each other outside that brief span of history.
