Have a trip planned there this summer to attend a Cubs game and staying around Miracle Mile. Still a good idea?

I was there about a year ago this time and despite all the news stories of rampant crime, I never saw anything sketchy. We stayed near Miracle Mile.

Go to search, and look up Chicago.

There has been many many threads on this board about where to stay/food/etc.

Thats the easier route and you'll get alot of the knowledge you are looking for!

Since OP provided no context, I'm just going assume he's referring to the few hundred teens that descended on downtown over the weekend. Honestly, feel like this has happened about once each year since COVID. Not sure if previous years got as much coverage, but it was organized on social media and definitely not a great look after the mayoral election.

There are just a few people on this board that live here and can confidently answer what you're asking. I don't blame visitors for considering alternate travel plans, as the videos paint an unsettling image. Nothing about this is ideal, but take some comfort knowing most of what happened was south of Magnificent Mile. The Loop is not far, but didn't extend to where you are staying + north side neighborhoods were untouched / pretty far removed.

In my opinion, you'll be fine. Don't want to speak in absolutes, but I'm coming up on a decade in August of living here and, personally, have never feared for my safety.

I assume you are talking about the Magnificent Mile.

Mag Mile is fine between there and Wrigleyville. Never had any problems walking by myself at night.

South of Wacker from Mag Mile past Millenium Park, all the way down to Roosevelt is generally fine too, but it’s empty at night and it feels weird walking a street in a major city and no one is out.

Chicago isn’t as bad as it seems. Generally you will quickly be able to tell if you are in a “bad” area.

I was there the other day and lived there once. It's not like there are people waiting on the corner to kill you. Use your head, observe common sense, come in after dark or take taxis, don't be aimlessly wandering after umpteen beers, etc...

Also if you do see a mass of kids heading your way (or just in the general vicinity), head inside a store or building. Preferrably a large one where you can fade into the background instead of being a target. That said I've never seen such.

Every time we have gone we have stayed at the Whitehall Boutique Hotel and enjoyed it. Was not really expensive and right across from the Hancock Tower.
