Here to eat my crow on WBB

I posted this week in response to another poster that “girls basketball sucks.” After watching Iowa’s Caitlin Clark lead her team to a dismantling of South Carolina, I’m a fan. That young lady is the girl’s version of Larry Bird and Steph Curry. Hell, she’s Pete Maravich for girls. She’s an assassin and does it all. I’ve tried to watch women’s basketball - well, I did a lot when my daughter played in JH and HS - and I just could not get over the disparity in athleticism vs the boys game. Watching 5-4 girls miss layups and shoot 3s like a 12-year old boy is brutal.
Even as much as I admired Pat Summit, the girls game, even for college where it’s a higher level of play, never appealed me. I still probably won’t watch a lot of it, but I will definitely watch this women’s championship game and follow Clark’s career.
Bonus: Caitlin and those pale ponytailed girls shut that race-baiting bitch Don Staley’s mouth.

I have to admit if she was playing anybody but LSU I would be rooting for her. She is a damn machine

I watch an unfortunate amount of women’s basketball. My wife loves it. Her mom played college basketball and coached it for years.
They also watch football with me all the time so it’s a small price to pay.
That being said, the sweet 16 on usually has some good games. There’s just such a huge discrepancy between the top and bottom of WBB that even great teams like USC this year look cringe playing most of their season.

It does.
One girl out of what, a few hundred thousand on a roster, doesn't completely alter the perception of the entire sport itself. For every one Kaitlin Clark there's about 50,000 that can barely make an uncontested layup

I won’t argue with you. You couldn’t pay me to watch a WNBA game. But that girl has skills and her team is fundamentally well-coached. Among her peers, which is the only fair way to judge her, she is a phenomenal athlete. The passing, ball handling, the screen and rolls and bombing threes from NBA-range was fun to watch.

The young lady from LSU is awesome to watch.

Of course. But there's a massive difference between "that girl is outstanding" and "girls basketball actually doesn't suck"

Last night’s game did not suck. That’s all I’m saying. Outmanned underdog team beats undefeated, defending national champions who had the No. 1 player in the nation and another 6-7 center and were favored by 11 1/2 points. It was riveting sports entertainment.
