Let's put some perspective on last year. Drink had his team ready to face 2, 1st round draft pick QBs and 1, 2nd rounder and a QB that ended with 2 Nattys, and a 5 star blue chip QB. Drink had Cook.

Drink also had Sam Horn. And he also missed out on several transfer QBs, I don't know the full stories there but I would assume the blame lies mainly on him
