Not at all. They just weren't relevant before Skip Bertman started his career there in 1984. Before that, they had never won a regional and went to the NCAA tournament only once.

Since, they're consistently one of the top programs in college baseball. After their "1 decade wonder" era (1991-2000), they've won another championship, gone to Omaha 7 times, and super regionals 13 times.

That in 21 seasons is more than most programs have all-time.
