The way college football has become such a regional sport, you almost want to look first at the southeast.

I think that's a good point.

Based on nothing other than a gut feeling, it seems like any of these teams could make it in at some point — à la TCU — but it's probably unlikely that they'd be able to win two games in a CFP scenario.

Which more than likely means it would be a battle-tested type team, which we would associate as a regionally Southern team.

For example, I could see UCLA winning the Pac-12 and subsequently getting blasted. However, if South Carolina wins the SEC, one would assume that they're probably pretty legit, with a decent chance at that point.
