Game and college practice speed at tackle is much different than high school. Learning the drop or kick step on pass coverage is one of the more difficult techniques to learn especially for kids 300 plus pounds. It also requires finer technique with your hands because you are outside and more likely to get flagged for being outside the shoulder. It’s a more difficult position to learn and play. Therefore when a younger player gets moved inside to guard they have good technique with their hands then it just becomes the ability to play low and being physical with bigger bodies on the DL.
