Preseason rankings are meaningless. Of course you can throw teams like Bama, UGA OSU on the wall and most will stick. But in the end they are nothing more than a conversation about hypotheticals generated by people who talk about football for a living.

And to drive early ratings. When people see #4 vs #7, they're more likely to tune in whether those rankings are really deserved or not.
