One observation on the commandant's reply....

Cannon is spelled with two "n's"...

now on the firing of the cannon...LSU fires a M-120 75mm pack howitzer when the team takes the field...the tube is elevated to about 800 mils (45 degrees) and a safety zone is roped off and cleared out

Ole Miss has one that they fire from the northeast corner of the Vaught from the student section...again elevated to 800 mils and high enough and far enough back to be safely fired

Aggies have a M-1903 3 inch field gun (basically fires the same blank as the 75mm pack that LSU has), the gun is on field level BUT the tube isn't elevated and their safety precautions aren't as strict...
