Mullen really sucked.

In a way, Franks breaking his leg and Trask coming in had some bad along with the good.

The good (actually great) was seeing Trask come off the bench and play some of the best QB we've seen in a long time in the Swamp. What a treat that was, especially with his underdog story.

The bad, however, was it masked Mullen's deficiencies and kept him around a year or so too late.

If Franks wouldn't have gotten hurt in KY, stubborn Mullen would've probably left him in and lost that game (starting off 0-2 against a KY program that we had been 31-0 against before Mullen).

The wheels would've likely fallen off on 2019, and Mullen might've been out the door sometime in 2020.

That would've sucked in the short term, but we would've gotten rid of the poison that Mullen and Grantham had infected this program with that we are now seeing.

Of course it's always clearer in hindsight, and I cherish the games Trask had here, so I can't say I regret that it happened the way it did.

But I really wish that Mullen was somewhat less of a goober and would've been able to get some sort of NFL gig after Trask left so that his cancerous influence would've been eradicated sooner.
