Hypothetical: Does PI get called if KoolAid doesn't intercept the ball?

Not trying to go all out conspiracy, but from what I gather no flag was thrown until well after the interception and return. And there was comment about a block in the back. And I know often late flags are thrown for PI, generally after the WRs throw their arms up in disgust.

So, just asking, do you think the refs would have gathered themselves enough after quickly enough to make that call?

Let's not argue whether it was PI or not, just would they have called it a penalty if the play would have been over right away?

No they wouldn’t have called it. Most of our pi calls were 3 to 4 seconds after the play. I’ve never seen that many pi calls late in all my years of football.

Based on what? The CBS crew not alerting us quickly?

There was no flag thrown for PI. It was thrown for a block in the back on the return. Then the refs huddled up decided there was no block in the back but and called PI without throwing a flag for it.

That’s what the radio guys saw…no flag for PI in real time. Only flag thrown during the play was for block in the back and then second flag for PI afterwards.

Two booth guys and sideline reporter saw the same thing.

Flag was thrown halfway through the return. You can't be that late and if you are it's for nefarious reasons.

Can you then confirm better for me when the PI flag was thrown?

I only know what I saw with my own eyes. I was watching the official who was right there by the pylon on the CBS telecast. He did not move at all until after McKinstry started to run with the football. I have no idea when the flag was thrown but it was after the return started.
