He seems to never play at full speed anymore. He plays very soft coverage and once his man catches the ball he’s usually never the one to make the tackle. Even his tackling has been subpar this year, he refuses to wrap up he just tries to jar the ball loose and gets drug for more yardage. He was a fan favorite his freshman year and I would like to see some of that same tenacity he played with at that time. Have any of you noticed a difference in his effort?

I wonder if his back is still not 100%

Possibly I do remember him hurting his back at the end of his freshman year.

Injury or not, here’s my case for Malachai. So far he has 17 total tackles this year. That’s one more than he had all of last season, and he’s not a starter technically if you start 2 traditional safeties. Jordan Battle: 25 total tackles this far. Brian Branch: 32 total tackles so far. Demarco Hellams: 37 tackles so far this season. We are thru 6 games, so if he performs the same throughout the rest of the regular season, he will finish with 34 tackles. That’s 10 less than what he finished with his freshman year, 44 total tackles. And we played 3 additional games his freshman year for him to add more tackles.
He has a nose for the football. He is always around the pile even if he is on the other side of the field. Besides, even though the game has changed a lot, you don’t want your defensive backs leading the team in tackles. Just my 2 cents.

His freshman year he was playing Star and now he plays Money. So, slightly more difficult to directly compare the stats.

I didn't think he wasn't doing bad job this year. Two different positions he played.

Then if he is coming in on dime packages compared to when he came in on nickel packages his freshman year, he’s probably seeing the field even less. I understand the responsibilities/roles are different with those 2 positions but still.
