That's not stupid at all. It's about your history with the person you're playing.
But to try and convince yourself that the other team is disrespecting you merely by stepping on the field is just incredibly stupid and makes no rational sense.
It's like trying to get mad because the other team wore helmets.

Yeah it’s dumb as hell. That’s basically saying playing organized football makes him feel disrespected
