AU got rid of him and part of it was due to how he hired Greene and wanted to fire Bruce. He help AU to become one of the major research universities in the South and the big dollars, but he had no understanding of Southern culture. The new President is the best of both worlds. We are not the Souths version of the University of Pheonix like the school you root for.
It doesn't matter that he's no longer there or what he was known for. He was hired to represent Auburn and so were his hires.

He did well on the research front and poorly on the AD front. He had a lot of issues before he came to AU and it caught up to him. All those people are gone now and that is what represents Auburn the best right now. AU pulled the trigger on bad hires. Schools make bad choices for President, so AU was just as guilty as many schools today. He didn't represent AU like the PTB wanted, and justifiably they got rid of him.
