You can believe whatever fantasy you like but in the early days of college football it was the PRIVATE schools who ruled the game, not the PUBLIC ones. Utx and OU back then were not "Brands" so getting a Vanderbilt game was a big draw (Vanderbilt may not emphasize CFB now but they had at least a dozen conference championships in their early years).

Next you will argue Utx and OU football was more famous than the Ivy League in the early era of the sport!

The rise of the PUBLIC schools in started after WWI but got their biggest boost with the GI bill after WWII.
