If only there was a way we could compare the two head to head. This game was in Knoxville. Be sure to check out those rushing stats for the QBs as well.

This shows how superior Georgia's offense was to Tennessee's defense. There is no arguing that Georgia's defense was dominant last year...but Georgia's offense never had to face them.

How about how their offenses did against a common opponent? Let's say, the team that finished 2nd in the East.

It is interesting how both offenses ran almost the exact same amount of plays as each other:

UGA ran 952 plays, gained 6644 yards, and scored 73 TDs.

Vols ran 953 plays, gained 6167 yards, and scored 67 TDs.

This is pretty stupid.

UGA was up 24-7 with 22 minutes left in the game. UGA went into "victory formation" offensively at that point. Oddly so did UK (probably because they didn't want the score to get any worse). UGA ran 2 more drives in that 22 minutes stretch (scored a TD on one). They had 3 total pass attempts in the final 22 minutes... compared to 17 in the first 38.

Could UGA have run the offense they did up to that point, run 14 more pass plays and scored 2 more TD's? Yeah. But they had the game won and didn't bother. They didn't bother in any of the other large number of blowouts either.

UT vs UK? UT was in a barn burner where they had to run their offense at full tilt the entire game in order to secure a 3 point win. That was what they had to do most of the season to be honest.

People make the mistake thinking UGA didn't throw as much as other teams last year because they couldn't. The reality is they threw more than they ran... in the first half of games. Once they got up by 3 scores, the ran the ball more to end the game quicker and secure the win. The other teams knew UGA was running out the clock and stacked the box... and UGA was able to do it anyway because despite being a pass first team when the game was in doubt, they were still really good at running the ball.

The NC game showed that. When you count sacks/scrambles as intended passes... UGA intended to pass 34 times in the NC and intended to run 22 times. That's what UGA does when the game isn't a blowout in UGA's favor. UGA just had a lot of blowouts last year.
