Gus wanted his OL fast and lean. Why we generally didn’t incorporate zone schemes and why we would struggle when Gus would allow a zone coordinator to design the offense we wouldn’t be able to run as effective. We we did man blocking with traps and pulls you want linemen that can move and block in space.

Example our outside counter no one wanted to see our 2 guards pull out side and whiff on the safety and linebacker they were supposed to block because they weren’t athletic enough to get to the guy.

This stupid theory that we had no mandatory work outs is ignorant. We absolutely would demolish people with our run game some had to do with scheme some had to do with lineman agility and strength. Remember when we built the sandpit we heard about that thing from players for 2 years dreading the workouts.

I’ve never seen our OL blown up more then last year outside of 2012. Both moved from man scheme to zone scheme. Takes a different ability and interior guys have to be different type of athletes for each. Zone you want that 6-5 330 pound interior guy. Man/gap/pull/trap you want a 6-4 305 guys that can move and get to their spots.

Just like under Gus I bet I had to explain the orbit motion on the Fambly 40 times before everyone understood why we would run the orbit motion
