Mainly because OU has nothing going rivalry-wise in the expanded SEC once you get past Texas. OU doesn't have a 2nd rival, much less a third to play every year.

Plus all of our "rivalries" have other teams that could fill the gap if you take us out of the equation. Texas is the only one without a comparable substitute for us, but LSU could find a 3rd school and Arkansas probably could too.

I think that's why we get paired with OU in a lot of these hypothetical.

Seems like there is also a lot of momentum for the 1+7 model, which would just be awful from a competition standpoint. But since everything is about more money and more power for the guys in the fancy suits, it will probably win out.
