I agree this is generally what NIL was supposed to be, but I'm not sure if an ad with an athlete saying he had a great experience with a loan company is the best example. How much of a "loan" did this kid get, and what does a 20 year old on a full ride living in a dorm need a loan for?

It's a paid endorsement, it doesn't matter. Do you really think Sebastian Gorka uses Relief Factor every night? Do you think Alex Trebek was an actual Colonial Penn life insurance customer?
Courts ruled long ago on first amendment grounds that you can pretty much lie your arse off for any kind of paid endorsement in America.

They are allowed to get loans.
A car would be the most common reason. Although they don't have to live in a dorm either, and the school will give them money for rent off campus(usually upperclassman, or those with families)
